The Rotary Club of Kandy is deeply committed to addressing the high incidence of cataracts in Sri Lanka, particularly among the rural poor. Through our “Mission for Vision” programme, we have been steadfast in organizing eye camps, with the invaluable support of The Rotary Foundation, international Rotary Clubs, and various donors. Our focused efforts since 2017/18 have been on providing cataract surgeries for impoverished villagers at risk of blindness, who otherwise could not afford such operations. To date, our initiative has screened over 53,000 people, provided 46,000 with spectacles, and performed more than 3,000 successful cataract surgeries. By bearing the cost of these surgeries or through donor funding, we are eliminating the darkness of cataracts and bringing light to the lives of those in need.
